Writing Life Launches!

Welcome to my new blog, which is something I've been thinking about and wanting to get stuck into for ages.

I've been busy setting up my new website, my new YouTube channel, Write The Way Up! and my patreon page, which all takes time. There's still more to do, but now I have the space to move onto the majorly exciting stuff - actual writing!

This blog will feature my thoughts and any breakthroughs or progress I have while I work on my three novels, which are at three very different stages.

The Bookfinder is a completed contemporary fantasy manuscript that I need to cut by a third because it's way too big for a first novel and publishers are unlikely to take a gamble on an unknown author with such a long story, however well written. So, I'm in a deep editing process to find the heart of the narrative.

The Scrutiny of Thaddeus Grymm is an historical fantasy sequel to The Bookfinder, set in 1776, which I'm about to begin plotting and creating a narrative structure for. I have my cast of characters (excited for readers to meet them!), their story arcs, and the world they inhabit, plus a theme and even some scenes mapped out.

Curious is the first draft of a novel that needs reworking. I wrote it many years ago before my Masters in Professional Writing, which really helped me develop my craft as a writer, and I can see where there is room to develop and make the story so much better.

Writing is hard work - it takes dedication, time, research and graft, but it's also one of the most exciting and rewarding creative processes ever! By sharing my experience I hope I can connect with other writers and maybe even help with a different perspective on tackling challenges like editing, refining dialogue, sharpening plot or overcoming roadblocks.
